The Curriculum

Rationale for the Curriculum

The aim of the philosophy programme is to provide a foundation for a healthy intellectual, moral and religious life and expose students to the wider wisdom of human cultures. The programme also offers an opportunity to attain a solid and coherent knowledge of GOD, man and the world through sustained, personal study, research and reflection.

Objectives of the curriculum

At the end of the programme students should be able:
To promote a healthy critical intellectual, moral and religious life, through an authentic African Philosophy, culture, politics, economics, and an exploratory, reflective, and ethical stand on what is true and of value.

  • To present important thinkers, ideas, texts, arguments and historical movements in philosophy.
  • To take a stand on issues, argue, question, evaluate, reflect, and work out answers to philosophical problems.
  • To demonstrate knowledge of African philosophy, forms of traditional thought and culture, and various religious traditions and political systems.
  • To begin theological studies.

Our Status

The Spiritan Missionary Seminary – SMS – is a Philosophical Institute, which is owned and administered by the Congregation of the Holy Ghost, otherwise known as Spiritans.
The SMS is open to receive students from other Congregations and Society.
